Home Theatre Equipment

As television technology continues to improve and prices fall, more and more homeowners are choosing to install a home theatre system. What exactly is a home theatre? Really, there is no textbook definition, but at the bare minimum all home theatres consist of a television set (preferably a large screen model) and an independent sound system.

Presently, the most popular sets for home theatres are flat screen (flat panel) high definition plasma televisions. Yes, it certainly is a mouth full, but customers are just wild about them. The standard high definition set boasts vastly superior resolution when compared to old analogue sets. As you might expect, this results in a cleaner, more vibrant picture that is particularly popular with sports fans and movie buffs.

Another important piece of home theater equipment is the sound system. Believe it or not, choosing a sound system can be even more challenging than selecting a set. There are literally dozens of brands to choose from as well as several different types of speakers that each have their strengths and weaknesses. Floor standing speaker systems, compact speaker systems and in-wall/on-wall speakers are just a few of the popular speakers systems available today.

Home theatre owners may also choose to purchase a standalone subwoofer, since every theatre needs a bass. Systems may or may not have one, so it is always a good idea to do your research and make sure a subwoofer is included.

Lastly, you may choose to install special seating in your home theatre. Although it may seem a bit much, many home theatre owners actually put in authentic movie-theatre style seats. Of course, this is purely optional, as most folks are fine with an old couch or recliner.
